Our Story
Lesbians of Connecticut Happy Hour was born in November 2022, when our founder, Lisa, created a Facebook group with a simple yet powerful goal: to “invite all our friends to happy hour.” What began as a small gathering of friends and friends of friends at local restaurants and bars quickly gained momentum.
As word spread throughout the Connecticut lesbian community, new members joined the group daily. Recognizing the growing interest, Lisa brought on a second admin, Joy, to help plan and organize events. The duo hosted a happy hour at Brickhouse Bar & Grill in Newington, and seeing its success, a third admin, Amanda, was brought on board to host a weekly happy hour at the bar which has become a cornerstone of community.
The group’s popularity continued to swell throughout 2023, and soon, a fourth admin, Laura, was invited to help manage the rapidly growing community. By May 2024, group membership had soared to 1,000, and it continues to grow. What started as a casual meet-up has blossomed into a vibrant and supportive community, connecting women who love women across Connecticut and forging lasting friendships.
Our Mission
The mission of Lesbians of Connecticut Happy Hour is a simple one: create a supportive, inclusive, and fun community for lesbians across the state. We aim to foster meaningful connections through regular social events and gatherings, providing a safe and welcoming space for all of our members to relax, socialize, and build lasting friendships.
While the group may be called Lesbians of Connecticut Happy Hour, we are dedicated to bringing together the community at large. We enthusiastically welcome all women who love women, whether they be cisgender, transgender, bisexual, pansexual, or, yes, lesbians. Everyone is welcome at our events.
In addition to strengthening social bonds, we are dedicated to uplifting the local LGBTQ+ community by promoting and supporting LGBTQ+-owned businesses. By coming together, we strive to empower each other, celebrate our diversity, and make a positive impact within and beyond our community.
